This International Day aims to recognize that the disaster at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant has left persistent serious long-term consequences and that there are communities and territories that experiencing ongoing needs as a result of the radioactive exposure they experienced. These communities need support from international, national, and public programs focused on sustainable development.
